Mitch’s Secret

Andi’s Journal, September 1891

I couldn’t get the twins to sleep fast enough to write down what happened today! You will never believe what Mitch did. Quite a few weeks ago we were all sitting in the parlor, right before Sunday dinner, when Mitch walked. You would never guess who he had with him…. Libby Flanders! He had been coming home separately from church, and later than all of us, recently.. The reason was because of that certain Flanders daughter. Just last month he made an announcement that he was going to Triple L to ask Mr. Flanders for permission to court her. Of course, he got it.

Ooh, that Mitch. He is so secretive! Anyway, Libby is the sweetest girl. She came and sat down next to me. She started to ‘ooh’ and ‘aww’ over the twins. Of course, they loved it.

I was surprised, as it was, that she even talked to me after what I did with that rotten Jeffery Sulivan. (That’s a story for another time) But boy am I glad that she chose Mitch! He is much better than Jeffery. They would not have done well together, no siree!

Anyway, today she came with him as usual, but boy oh boy, it surely wasn’t just a usual day. After we were all full up of fresh apple pie and coffee, he stood up, and made an announcement. He and Libby are engaged! I never would have thought that Mitch would actually ever get married!

Everyone was thrilled. I was right up there with everyone, hugging them and giving them well wishes. Ooh, that Chad! He slapped Mitch on the back and said, “I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. I never thought you’d get someone this good though.”  Everyone burst out laughing at his comment. Let alone Mitch’s bright red face.

Well, that’s all for now since Lottie just started crying. I will most definitely keep my journal updated with wedding plans, and the date. Yes sirree!
