About the Author
Micaiah is a young author living in the southern part of the country. She is passionate about her writing being used for her LORD Jesus Christ’s glory. In her spare time, she is reading, baking, blogging, enjoying God’s wonderful creation or preparing for her next swim competition.

And a GIVEAWAY!
Micaiah is offering her brand-new book, Finally Home and Other Sarah Short Stories as a giveaway. You will not want to miss this fun opportunity to enter to win. After the interview with Micaiah, I’ll let you know how you can win this book. Don’t you just love the cover?
Young Author Visit with Micaiah Christenson
1. When did you start writing?
I always wrote a little bit. One of my first writing experiences was when I decided it was terrible that Nancy and Ned didn’t get married in the Nancy Drew Series. I wrote a ‘book’ about them getting married and having a baby. As I read through it a few months ago, I realized how far I have come as a writer since then.
2. What made you want to become an author?
Susan K. Marlow! As I said, I started writing a long time ago, but I really took off in my writing a little less than a year ago. It started with the annual writing contest. After that, I started writing a few Fan Fictions. A little after that, I met Sara Miller through this blog! Sara really encouraged me to start writing my own storylines. I never could have imagined that less than a year later I would be a published author.
3. What is the best piece of advice you’ve gotten while writing?
“Show, don’t tell.” I have always heard this, but when I went through Mrs. Marlow’s writing workbook on becoming an author, she made it so simple!
4. Tell us about your book. What is it called, and what’s it about?
My book is Finally Home and Other Sarah Short Stories. Twelve-year-old Sarah Jackson and her family move to St. Louis to follow her father’s job. Little do they know what is waiting for them in Missouri, including a ‘haunted house’, a Boer attack in the newspapers, a robbery, and much more. Will she ever feel at home?
Spoiler alert! Don’t read this if you don’t like spoilers. Sarah’s ‘haunted house’ is actually her brother playing a trick!
5. What is your favorite line in Finally Home?
It’s when Sarah is writing in her journal, just after her older brother saw her do something embarrassing. She told her brother that she would tell one of his secrets if he told. This is what she says to her journal: Somehow I have a feeling no one will ever know about my little accident.
6. Who is your favorite character in Finally Home? Why is he/she your favorite?
Probably Sarah’s annoying older brother Charlie is my favorite. He was just so much fun to write, along with all of his antics. It was also cool to see the deeper part of his character during a harder time for the family. I realize that even though I wrote him to be a sort of comic relief, he also can be very serious when I need him to be.
7. Finally Home is a part of a series called Five Generations. What is that all about?
Well, I am hoping to write a five-book series. They will be about five different girls growing up over one hundred years. The first (Finally Home) is about Sarah. After that, it will be about her daughter. Then her granddaughter, and so on. I have started the second book, I can share the title: It Is Well and Other Abigail Short Stories, but this book is on hold for now.
8. Are you currently working on any other books other than the Five Generations series?
I am! I started a new book that will hopefully turn into a three book series. This book is not yet named. Here is a short summary. Twenty-year-old Elizabeth Carthan’s life seems normal enough. Normal, that is, until her long-lost mother shows up again–with some startling news.
I am also brainstorming a new book idea about a girl from India named Adhira.
8. Those two works in progress sound so interesting, Micaiah. But now, back to Sarah. I found out Finally Home is illustrated. That’s so exciting! Who created the drawings?
The drawings were created by my sister-in-law. Here are three of them.

9. Who inspired you the most in writing and who is your biggest supporters?
Mrs. M really inspired me to write. I have always loved her books! My big sister was a fan way before me. I remember going to a conference in my old state and meeting Mrs. M. She autographed the Stepping Stones series for me. I remember starting the first one right when we got in the car!
My biggest supporters are, first off, my family. Right after my brother heard that I had published my book, he asked for the link and bought three copies. The rest of my family has also supported me in so many ways. Also, Sara Grace Miller, who I mentioned above, has been really helpful. She edited my entire book twice. She has supported me so much through my writing journey (which hopefully has just begun). Also Tori Huber. She edited for me and is a huge supporter. Thank you both!
9. Can you go ahead and share the link to Finally Home? Not everyone will win a copy, and the link can take them to the Amazon page where they can purchase a copy.
Sure! Check out the book here>>
10. And what about sharing a little excerpt with the fans?
I’d love too. This is the first “cliffhanger.”
The second Sarah entered her house in New York that fateful night, she knew something was wrong. Her mother screamed. Sarah ran into her little sister Lily’s room. She ran to her cradle and looked down. She took a step back and sank to the floor with a cry.

Micaiah, what gave you the inspiration to write Finally Home?
LikeLike
Hi Leah!
A lot of people actually!
One of whom is Mrs. Marlow! I love all her books! In one of her giveaways, I won her book on how to become a better writer, and while I went through it, I started shaping the characters in Finally Home.
Another person was Sara M! She edited my whole story, and really encouraged me to keep it up and publish!
Hope that answers your question!

I agree…there’s always an understanding between Ned and Nancy that they will marry, but it never takes place in the books. Sad for the readers! Would you ever consider re-writing your story on them getting married and making public somehow?

Micaiah, how did you decide on ‘Finally Home’ as the title?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hi Faith!
I chose Finally Home because of one of the short stories in the collection. (The short story is titled Finally Home)
I was originally going to end with that story (But then I added more) so that is how I chose it! Even when I added more the name stuck.
Hopefully that makes sense and answers your question!

Hi there Naomi!
I wrote the ‘first draft’ in many different sections. It probably took me like two months to write they first part (I originally wrote it in chapters) and then the middle part took about two weeks! It sat in my drafts for a while, and then I went back and added a few more chapters. After that I changed the chapters (Sometimes combining them) to stories. Then I took about a week to edit, and published!
I hope that answers your question!

I can draw the name. They have to have left an email. So each Tori will have a different email. No email equals no win. 🥲
If you really want to draw the name, that’s great and way less work for me, but you will have to tell me who won so I can send you their email.

What is Sarah’s EIL?
LikeLike
Sorry, what is ‘EIL’? Haha. 🙂
LikeLike
Oh sorry! EIL stands for experiment in living. Aka the driving belief that governs the character. It is questioned and at the end of the story (usually) changed. So my question is what belief of Sarah’s governs her decisions and in the end is altered?

Gotcha!
During the beginning because of a situation (I’m not going to say what because it would be a big spoiler!) her trust in God is tested. She also struggles with feeling ‘homesick’. Towards the end though, that changes. 🙂
I hope that answers your question!
~Micaiah

Well, they aren’t always altered… Is your story “slice of life” or is it following a character’s development?

I would love to win it because 1) it sounds so interesting and you left me on a cliff hanger! and 2) because I love reading young authors stories.
I have a few questions 😀
How did you come up with the idea of Sarah’s life?
When did you first begin writing?
Are any of the events that happen in the book from an experience you’ve had?
LikeLike
Hi Emma!
I started shaping her character, and her family in a character chart. This was while I went through Mrs. Marlow’s writing book. After I had completed that, I started brainstorming ideas for her to get into. The final product turned out to be Finally Home!
I started writing when I was very little. (As I mentioned above about Nancy and Ned. :)) I don’t remember an exact age though. 🙂
Not that I can think of!
