Peek Behind the Story: Mud Crabs & Kelp

Half the fun of writing “Andi” books is finding peeks “behind the story” that I can share to make Andi’s adventures come alive. This peek goes along with “Summer on the Sound,” one of the short stories in the brand-new Circle C Adventures Book 8, More Tales from the Circle C Ranch.

Awhile back, Mrs. M., along with Mr. M, our son Chad, and grandson Levi headed down to the Point Defiance boathouse in Tacoma (a favorite place to hang out when I was growing up). It was so beautiful, warm, and sunny. I found a perfect example of the kelp “whip” Jenny Grant’s younger brother Gideon played with in “Summer on the Sound.” I tried it out, but the whip did not work so well for me. You can watch the video and laugh.

Mr. M and I went back to the bay another time, and the tide was so far out that I thought, “Maybe I can find a little mud crab like Andi and Jenny caught when Andi visited Jenny that summer.” And guess what? I did! He (uh, she?) was an adorable little critter. You can see my little mud crab friend in this same one-minute video.

That’s right. The video is so fun that I hope it makes you want to read the adventure Andi has when she visits Jenny in Tacoma, Washington Territory, in July 1881. “Summer on the Sound” is one of six stories in More Tales from the Circle C Ranch. The story is easy to read on your mobile devices.

I'm the author of the Circle C and Goldtown Adventures series. I blog as "Andi Carter," the main character in the Circle C series. She lives on a huge cattle ranch in 1880s California. These are her adventures.
