Jewels Taffy Kandy and Royale Dakota Moon were two months old last Friday (on Andi’s birthday). If you remember, Taffy was born March 26 at 10:30 pm and Kody was born March 27 at 4:30 am. Whoosh, what a long night!
First Up: Royale Dakota Moon (Kody)
Anyway, Kody is the colt and he was born cremello. But he’s losing his baby hair and it’s coming in . . . wait for it . . . dark chocolate! Can you believe that Kody is most likely going to end up as a Shasta look-a-like, a chocolate palomino? So, what are the odds of this happening? One in 200. Hang on for more fun facts about our favorite foals.
One indication of a foal’s adult coloring is to check out their eyelashes. Kody’s eyelashes are a mile long! And they are dark brown, not cream or golden. Also, Kristel found a picture of Kody’s uncle. His sire, Rubicon’s brother, CR Moonstruck Meadow, is a chocolate palomino, so the right combination of genes could make this happen. The 10,000-member palomino show horse Facebook group assures daughter Kristel that for sure, Kody will end up being a chocolate palomino. Who would have guessed??? He was born totally cremello! Check out these new images of Kody the cremello chocolate palomino! 1) his eyelashes, 2) Kody’s darkening rump, 3) Kody’s uncle Moonstruck.

Breaking News!
Although Scarlett’s previous owner lost her papers, he did find her registered name. (This is the dam of Kody.) Her registered (quarter horse) name is Shays Sweet Olena. Kristel found her pedigree. Since her DNA is already on record at UCDavis, it will be easy to prove Scarlett is “Shay” and the registered dam of Kody (which ups his value to five digits, like $15,000). Gulp. The amazing news is that her great-great-great grand sire is the famous quarter horse, Doc Bar. If you are interested, you can read about Doc Bar here >>

As far as personality, Kody is a perfect gentleman still. He is huge (probably will top out at 17hh as an adult!), but even Kristi (a petite age 10) can handle him without any worries. She picks his feet and leads him around. Look at that tail! It’ going to go to ground like his sire, for sure! Kristel almost didn’t want me to use these pictures. Kody was so pretty as a two-week-old cremello foal, but his random shedding of his baby coat makes him look scruffy. But I think he’s beautiful and I miss him so much!
Here’s a 30-second video of Kristi handling this gentle giant, leading him around.
Taffy’s Turn (Jewels Taffy Kandy)

What can I say? This filly is perfectly named. She IS Taffy. At two months old she is still petite, but she is frisky and smart as a whip. At last, nobody has to catch her! She comes right up and can’t wait to be scratched and haltered and led. Look at those socks/stockings! Just like Andi’s Taffy. Check out her blaze–just like Taffy’s blaze in the Circle C books. She is an amazing palomino. Her eyelashes are dark gold, so she will be a true “golden” palomino as an adult. Watch this 2.5 minute video to see Kristi (young Andi) lead Taffy, pick her feet, and get Taffy used to wearing a cowboy hat. Talk about a sweet Andi-Taffy moment! Playing with her filly!
More Surprising News
Kristel dug around deeper into Jewels (Taffy’s dam) pedigree. Guess what! Jewels’s great-great-great grandsire is also DOC BAR! No wonder her foals are exquisite. She never expected this. She just wanted some calm foals and Rubicon was only about 45 minutes away. Who knew, right?

We hope you enjoyed this long update and the videos. We are still in wonder that Taffy is just like Andi’s Taffy, and Kody is just like Andi’s Shasta. We. Are. Thrilled!
And one more “filly fit” and “colt crying” video (3 minutes, longer than usual) if anybody is interested The girls went out to ride and the foals had a fit.

Wow! So Taffy and Dakota are really distantly related?

They are half siblings actually since they share the same sire, Rubicon.

Thank you for showing pics of Kody in his color change process, not only is it fun to see how much he’s grown, but it will help make it more believable in a few years when he looks totally different than the cremello he started out as.😂
