Jewels Gender Reveal

That’s right! Kristel had a free ultrasound today at the equine hospital so she could bring the mares in to find out if they are having a filly or a colt. Maggie’s foal was way too active (and 20 days younger than Jewels’s foal), so alas. Maggie will have to wait until I go down there next month. I guess there is an old wives tale that I can use a nail and a string and somehow it reveals the gender. Yeah. Right. But the “nail trick” predicted a filly for Jewels last time (Taffy), so we will see. I will use the nail on Jewels first–since yes, we do know the gender for her foal–and if the nail trick confirms the ultrasound, then we’ll see what Maggie is having.

How they can tell this is a mystery to me!

Okay . . . drum roll. Jewels is having another filly! We are hoping and praying this one will be a tobiano . . . buckskin tobiano or palomino tobiano . . . the odds are the same as having a palomino or a buckskin. I guess 25% or a 1 out 4 for each of the four color combinations. Go Rubicon! Give Jewels a tobiano this year! I personally would like a palomino tobiano, like the picture from the contest. SIGH. SO PRETTY!

This is the filly I want!

And guess what this means! Next late spring we’ll have a “guess the date” or “choose a name” contest for both mares. (Or maybe do all of these).
