Kody Leaves the Ranch . . .

. . . And we are not sorry to see him go.

Well, I should amend that. He was a precious, sweet, gentle little man as a foal. He still is very nice, smart as a whip, but way too tall (going onto 16hh) for Kristel to work with him without feeling unsafe. She still has the scar from where Kody’s hoof accidentally met Kristel’s shin and it was very painful. He had startled and they got in each other’s way. He also eats them out of house and home. Good-bye, Kody!

The good news? Kody was purchased by the Diamond Ranch locally (in Texas), and he will immediately be sent to Utah for extensive training by one of the best trainers in the U.S. Then off he goes to begin his national show circuit. I can’t wait to see his ribbons pile up! Every show where Kody shines comes back to his sire, Rubicon, and then Kristel can perhaps pursue the stud service (AI at the equine center) and actually start making some money. Seriously, horses cost money to care for and feed.

Click the image to watch a short video of Kody (look how golden he is becoming!) climbing aboard the trailer to begin his new life. I think he was eager to go, as living on the Painted Acres Ranch is very boring for such a smart colt. He needs to work! He will never look back.

And neither will we.

But never fear! A new colt and a new filly are on there way! Here is Jewels latest pH reading. 7.2. Once she hits 6.8, it is mere hours until she foals! Exciting times. Wish I was there. Last time, I was at the foalings of Taffy and Kody. This time, they are due in June, and I don’t live in Texas in June . . . not for any horse! 😲

Wouldn’t it be fun if Jewels filly came today, on Kristel’s birthday (May 28)?
