Maggie’s Colt Is Here!

Last night about 11 pm, June 24, 2025, Maggie delivered a stunning little colt. The mare is only about 14hh, so it was touch and go there for a while. Kristel had to assist to help him be born before poor Maggie (in her 20’s) gave up. The shoulders were stuck and Kristel thought the colt had died since he wasn’t moving! (Shades of Andi and Chad and Taffy!) But she kept at it, and the little fellow came through healthy and active after the trauma. She is just thankful that he was lined up perfectly (hooves and nose) or she would have had a dead mama and baby.

Here are a couple of pictures. Before: Maggie nearly “done in” and can’t get up. Then the After: (after Banamine–Motrin for horses) up and Baby finally nursing. It’s way past midnight by now, but this is a gorgeous foal. We are thinking “Silver Buckskin.” He is for sure a buckskin, but what shade his coat will eventually become is up for discussion. (Taffy’s cocoa-colored foaling coat turned red-gold, and Kody’s cremello turned honey palomino. So you just never know.)

After the pictures, you can watch the video. And then . . . drum roll . . . if you would like to offer a different name now that you have seen that he might just be a silver buckskin, you may do so.

Naming contest ends Saturday at 5 pm Texas time.

MAGGIE HAS JUST ABOUT HAD IT AT THIS POINT. SHE WON’T GET UP.
AFTER MEDS, SHE KNOWS BABY NEEDS TO NURSE. SHE LOVES BABIES!

Buckskin Shades

Here are the most common buckskin shades. It’s impossible for Rubicon to throw “smokey black” or “sooty.” And for sure, Baby is not “dappled.” So, that leaves six choices. Which one would be your guess?

    1. No. We thought Kody might turn dark, but his chocolate coat that winter changed to honey.

Kristel had a mini pony mare who was a chocolate palomino in the winter and turned to a silver dapple every summer. For real!!!!
