Finally!

Remember when I shared the good news about Maggie? She and Rubicon got together and she is in foal. Video showing the ultrasound 👉

Kristel has been trying to get Jewels interested in Rubicon (called “teasing” by breeders) but “Twinkie” (Jewels’s nickname, and it is not a compliment) would have nothing to do with him. In fact, Kristel made a huge mistake. She put them together, and Jewels immediately kicked Rube and split is lip. I couldn’t find the image but trust me, it was icky. Rubicon is such a fine, gentle stallion that he ran away from this crazed mare!

We thought she might have already been in foal by accident last winter (with Kody before he got gelded). Well, ultrasound now showed two really nice follicles, so with a shot of Lutelyze to get Jewels into the right attitude, the vet sent them on their way.

And . . . finally! Jewels is in love with Rubicon, and he is in love with her. And Kristel had several successful breedings until Jewels decided enough is enough, and now we’re pretty sure she is in foal.

But . . . there is a slight possibility of twins, since the vet saw two huge follicles ready to go. Please pray they both don’t develop into foals! If it happens, then one of the teensy embryos must be “pinched” in order to save the life of Twinkie and the other foal. She will find out in less then two weeks at the ultrasound scheduled for July 17 or so. I will keep you posted!

Until then, here is a fun photo gallery of some mighty pretty horses! Rubicon is decked out like a Fourth of July horse. Not even Andi went this far when she tied ribbons in Mitch’s horse, Chase, for the Fourth of July race. She would not be so daring with her brother’s horse, although she might have done it on Taffy.

    1. Because a mare cannot usually support twins and both are often miscarried before term. Or both are born very weak

But there are exceptions…. Big surprises that make the horse news….

      1. if she is in foal with twins would they consider letting them both develop? Or is it too risky for the mare?
