  4. So, what should a selfpublished author include on that page? Can i still say that i have rights reserved cause i have auto rights? Do i need my adress and name on that page? And what about wheres its published, the company, and the bit i see on every book about the resemblence to people living or dead is a coindence?

    1. Oh, you can include pretty much whatever you want. No big rules.
      Your name, copyright, (I never write “all rights reserved.” I don’t even know what that means. LOL
      You can in include it if you want, but just writing, “Copyright 2024 by Susan K. Marlow” is fine, without the “all rights reserved.”
      You don’t need to put your address in if you don’t want to
      You don’t have to put where it was published either.
      You don’t have to do that “bit” about living and dead people either. LOL

      I used to add all of it when I was a teen! I looked in a book and just did the same thing.
      No worries!
      Mostly just the “copyright 2024 by . . .” part is what’s important.

      But in as much or as little as you think will look cool.
      You can even make up a publishing company name, like I use “Circle C Creations” for my self-published Fan Fun Extras books and my workbooks.
      Whatever is fun!

        Also, i found out that lulu and Canva don’t work together anymore to create book covers. It looked so easy the way you did it on Canva in your lulu.com book uploading video. It’s too bad

      2. Oh, I just made it up and wrote it on the title page of the book(s). LOL
        I did NOT purchase it as a “trademark” or anything like that. That’s too expensive and too much work. If somebody else uses it, oh well. Or if somebody does buy it as a trademark and tell me I can’t use it anymore . . . oh well. I’ll think up something else. Especially in the case of self-publishing, it’s best not to take yourself too seriously. It’s just a book in the big scheme of things.

        No, once you push “publish,” you may not delete your book. You may “unpublish” it, but it stays on your Book Shelf (on KDP) forever. Boo.
        You also can’t delete it from LULU. But again, you can unpublish it so no one else can see it. It’s fine. It just is not as organized as you might want your book shelf. LOL

        Well, boo! Okay, it’s about time I updated that Zoom video anyway. Thanks for telling me. I need to go through doing a book on KDP this time!

    Is it true that Chad and Justin arm wrestled to see who would walk Andi on her wedding?

    Did Andi dance with all three of her brothers on her wedding day?

    At what stage of life/ age did Andi become the closest with her sisters? And her brothers?

    1. If you read the first story I’d Stranger in the Glade you will find the answer to the question about Cory’s attending Andis wedding

      If they did, it was just for fun since Justin would always be the father figure to walk her down the aisle.

      Of course she danced with all three. 😉

    so why didn’t Andi’s brothers (Justin, Chad, and Mitch) discipline her instead of leaving it to their mother? After all, the boys all sorta took over Andi’s father, so why couldn’t they tan her?

    In “The Price of Truth” Mrs. Evans Name is Millie. Andi heard them gossiping about her in Goodwins store.
    But in “The Terrible Secret”When Mrs Evans sees Andi go into the ally way with Gordan, It says her name is Violet Evans.
    I was just wondering wich is her real name?

      2. That’s where Fan Fiction comes in. I don’t have the time to write all of the other characters’ “stories” from each of their points of view regarding their reactions to what is happening with the main character, Andi. That’s why everybody loves fan fiction. Readers get to learn the answers to these kinds of questions in a fun, story way…..

  18. Hi Mrs. M,

    I have a question…

    I come from a large close-knit family of 10 kids, I’m the youngest. My oldest (who’s a brother) is almost 14 years older than me. Also, most of the people we interact with have the same family dynamics: large and close.

    Why is Chad always it seems very bossy and just in general mean somewhat to Andi, especially as a child?

    For me, my sisters, and most of my friends, my older brothers always are very sweet and protective with me, and when I was younger as a little girl, my 3 oldest brothers especially were always very nice and patient with me.

    I’m just asking as I and a bunch of other church girls were reading, that, doesn’t seem a bit immature on Chad’s part for him to always be clashing with Andi? Couldn’t he handle his disagreements better with her?

    1. Great question! It’s for a completely fiction and literary reason. If there is never any conflict, then the story is boring and there is no opportunity for the characters to grow and change and learn. You will notice that Chad never clashes with Melinda. Andi, the main character, brings most of her clashes with Chad on herself. She is the main character and honesty, don’t you think the stories would be a bit dull if she and Chad were always sticky sweet to each other? Mitch is the easy going and nearly perfect big brother to Andi. I had to have one brother who challenges Andi to behave herself. Lol
      Real life is rarely so perfect, and Andi being strong willed and having that pesky sin nature, takes a little longer to figure life out than big sister Melinda.
      And I’m pretty sure your family does not have a prodigal like Kate either.
      My fiction family does…. So readers can see the love of a family and Christ’s forgiveness, in spite of the characters’ many faults. If Andi (and Chad) had no believable faults there would be no chance to change. And Andi does eventually grow up and figure this out.
      And maybe…. That’s why you enjoy the books so much. 😉

      5. Not sure what you are asking. Time doing what?
        This is the 1800s, not the 21st century. People were busy from dawn to dusk just making a living. I Price of Truth, Justin takes Andi to lunch, but that is very rare for that time period.

        Their favorite sibling past time is playing checkers together.

        I’m the younger books, stepping stones, Chad lets Andi come along and help brand the calves. Mitch shows her how and everything.

        Not sure what other kind of spending time you mean.

    I just wanter to say that I am so sorry to hear about you losing your dear friend, Ms. Coleen. I am praying for you. That must be hard on you.
    I just lost my Grandfather in July but I know for sure that he has gone to Heaven and is with the Lord right now.

  27. why didn’t andi have an older brother who was only like say 2 to 5 years older, so that she could actually confide, play with, and be really close and have fun with when she was a child to a young woman. All her older brothers are at least 10 years older than her, and mainyl appear to be always scolding her.

    Also, are Andi and Melinda close?

    1. I’m afraid the only question I can answer is how far away… Berkeley is in Oakland, so it’s about an 8-hour train ride in the 1880s.

      As far as the other questions… Sorry, I never thought about it. Mitch going to college was a minor plot point and I don’t know if he ever finished or not.

      It would require too much research to learn about his major, how long it takes to get it, etc , and I don’t have time to dig that deeply.

    1. I have to be honest and say I don’t know the answer to any of your questions except the first.
      That answer is in Price of Truth, after Andi returns to school and Johnny does not. It’s on page 100 at the beginning of the chapter, about her being well liked.

      But I never calculated the cliff’s depth in feet, and never thought about who was the nicest in the family.

    1. I think Andi used that excuse that Taffy was out on the range in Price of Truth, so that her family would not ask her where her horse was (when the Wilsons stole it). Sure, Taffy was “out on the range,” but she was not on Circle C rangeland.

      When Andi went to school in San Francisco, they put Taffy out on the range. It’s not good for a horse to be cooped up without being ridden and cared for, so if Andi were gone somewhere for any length of time, Taffy would go out on the range with the rest of the horses.

      1. I’m sure she does but I just haven’t written much about that. I do have a Christmas story, where she goes up into the mountains with her brothers to cut down a tree, and they get caught in a blizzard. Go here and you might be able to find it.       3. Not if the older sibs are still in the home. However, I was married at 19 and my littlest sister was 6. It’s hard to have a relationship of any kind when you marry and leave home when the youngest is so young. My sister (as an adult) and I have a good relationship now… But I would not say we are close. She has her life and I have mine and we live on opposite sides of the state.

    1. Toledo is American, not hispanic.
      The book tells you this. He is 19.
      I can’t pick one. In a fan fiction story, you can decide who is whose favorite brother or sister.
      Yes, Levi is 12. Andi is 15.
      Yes, Andi grew much closer to Mitch, especially when they did night guard duty together.

      3. Flushing strays is when the cowhands go out on the range and find all the cows that are hiding in the scrub and brush . . . they “flush” them out to get them back with the herd so they can brand them or sell them or whatever.

        As far as the rest of the questions, I don’t reallly have any specific answers. I have never thought about it. Aunt Rebecca passed away the January before Andi turned 18, so you can look on the “Family Tree” and find out what date Rebecca was born and then subtract from 1886 and you will be able to figure it out.

    1. I am not sure what you are asking. Kregel puts my books up there but I can buy author copies from my publisher. But since I didn’t really sell books off my website any longer (except the two new ones, and that will be only until I run out of the books they sent me), I’m not sure why you are asking this. If you mean the Fan Fun Extras, the cost to me is KDPs printing cost plus shipping, which is not cheap. I don’t sell the Fan Fun Extra books on my site anymore either, since it’s cheaper for you to buy them right from Amazon, especially if you have Prime and free shipping.
