Taffy Update

Taffy just turned two years old on Wednesday, March 26. Happy birthday, Taffy! We sure wish you felt better. As I’ve mentioned before, Taffy suffers from a severe–and somewhat rare–form of laminitis. The vet believes it came about because of the move from CA to TX a year and a half ago. Very stressful, even though she had a box stall with mama Jewels.

So far, the treatment has been slow–if anything–to straighten her hoof angle. Boots and agressive farrier work, shaving the hoof in order to bring it up (both front feet). But so far, she stands around (or lies around) in a lot of pain. The boots do help her walk a little, but right now she is just what i would call a “trophy” palomino, essentially not good for anything but to look at. One vet said there is no cure and she should be put down. Yikes! (Shades of Andi and Taffy in The Last Ride!) Kristel is not ready for that option yet . . . if at all. She will take her in for x-rays in June (exactly one year after being diagnosed with this issue) and see. Maybe you could pray for Taffy, since she really is in pain and even the Butte (vet motrin) does not help all the way.

Enjoy this short gallery (and video) in honor of Taffy’s second birthday. I hope she makes it to age four, and then we can see her true coat color!

Pretty Taffy!

A Little Longer Video

But the quality is not as nice as my daughter’s video. SIGH.

  1. Poor Taffy! I will for sure say a prayer for her. She is a beautiful filly. If she had one more stocking on her leg, she would look exactly like Andi’s Taffy!
