Old Foals & New Foals

Jewels is getting ready to foal! Year One she gave us a beautiful palomino, Jewels Taffy Kandy, but Taffy had to be put down for untreatable (and painful) laminitus.

SADLY, THOSE SHOES ON HER FRONT FEET TELL THE WHOLE STORY.

Year Two (last year) she gave us a lovely paint-type horse, Jewels Moonlit Treasure. Out of the eight color combination possibilities (based on Rubicon’s and Jewels’s DNA results), it appears that Trissy is a . . . wait for it . . . buckskin tovero (they often have a blue eye or two blue eyes. Trissy has ONE blue eye and one brown). You fans named her, and the winner (the name Kristel chose) even got a prize. Trissy turned one year old a week or two ago. Kristi, age 13, owner of Trissy, loves her to pieces. Kristel says Kristi is too easy on her, and she (Trissy) is spoiled. But I imagine Chad would have said the same to Andi about her spoiling Taffy at age 13, right?

You can see by the image below that Trissy loves Kristi as much as Kristi loves Trissy. She’s raised her from a foal, just like Andi. (Grandma–that’s me–gave her a complete horse grooming kit with carryall for Christmas.)

TRISSY as a NEWBORN . . . and . . . TRISSY at ONE YEAR OLD.

Here is a video of Kristi sweetly bathing her “precious.” Knightley is in the video too, a little. I guess they’re going to keep him, after all. Mama “Maggie” is another horse that had to be put down. I think (if I remember right) she was showing signs of “Cushings” and she was very old and had many foals. She left us in peace. But her colt Knightley (you fans named him too!) is a gorgeous buckskin. Okay, keep reading for Year Three!

BEHIND TRISSY AND KRISTI YOU CAN JUST MAKE OUT KNIGHTLEY (MY PERONAL FAVORITE)

Year Three is coming in a short week or two. I am not going to start the name the filly contest until after she is born so you can see what she looks like. First of all, here is our precious “blobette,” AKA Jewels or “Twinkie” or whatever we feel like calling this fat mare who doesn’t like to move quickly. Nobody likes to ride her, but she makes a lovely brood mare, and her foals have been stunning.

IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, YOU CAN SEE HER FILLED UDDER AND TEATS. SHE’S READY TO GO!

Here is the color chart possibilities and the odds (which are all the same). Which color combination do you think Jewels and Rubicon will give us this year? I have a survey below that you can guess if you want. We can see who is closest when the time comes. Just for fun.

If the survey doesn’t show up on your device, here is the link: COLOR SURVEY
