A fan asked for a “Colton” colt update, and the request was perfect timing. I just got a couple of new videos (which I combined below) and pictures! So, let the update begin. At three months old, Colton has very good manners. He leads and even lifts his feet so he will learn to be a good boy for the farrier. Just like Andi trained Shasta and Sunny (from Thick as Thieves, chapter 11):
Andi drew alongside Shasta. “I’m going to pick up your foot, so stand still,” she warned her colt. Sliding her hand firmly along Shasta’s front leg, she gave him the signal to lift his foot.
“He obeys well,” Melinda said. “You’ve been working hard on his training.”
“Nothing annoys Jake more than a skittish horse during shoeing,” Andi replied, scraping the pick along the colt’s hoof. “I heard him scorch Hector last week when he had to replace a shoe.” She cringed at the memory. Hector’s horse had danced all over the place, just missing the ranch’s farrier with a swift kick. “My colts are never going to give Jake trouble.”
Colton is 8.1 hh at twelve weeks (he will be three months September 6. Minnie Mae is only 9.0 hh. Scroll down to enjoy the pictures and then watch Colton live in the video I put together. Ask questions, and my daughter (or I) hopefully can answer them. In answer to his coloring questions, Colton is a dark bay. He is losing his white baby hair, and his legs are coming in a shade darker than his body. The white spots on his face is still baby hair too. He is going to be gorgeous. His tail is already getting long.

I’m not sure, but we will never know for sure, since Colton is not part of the Painted Acres ranch any longer. He and his Minnie Mae mama went on to a Mini farm. Colton, even after being gelded, turned into a rather unreliable and unsafe mini horse. It’s so strange since he had all that handling and was so perfect for the first 4-5 months. They say it’s “all in the stallion,” and that appears true. Kody and Taffy are wonderful, just like their sire.

He had a full horse sire. So he is half horse. You can tell by his confirmation and size. He might make it to 12hh at full growth, which is a ridable horse!

Thanks, eagle-eye Anonymous. The deed is done. If you only knew how many SPAM comments land in my Spam folder, and many are just like what you caught. I’m sad that WordPress did not catch that one. Usually it’s automatically filtered, but apparently one (out of thousands) sneaked through. Glad to have your eyes to help me. I never read them cuz it’s pages and pages. It’s a BOT, so that’s why none of it makes sense but they throw bad words in there, which is usually how WP filters. Keep up the good work!

We have no idea! Minnie was a rescue and we expected a mini foal but got a horse instead!
